    Collaborative Study Activities

This activity is designed for student groups of 2-4. Larger groups will work better when there is no supplemental instructor present in the laboratory to assist in testing student groups on each section.

    Urinary System Anatomy

    1. Identify the following structures on classroom anatomical models and/or unlabeled images/diagrams made available by your instructor. Work with your group to identify each structure and check them off the list once you have identified them.

    ⎕ aorta

    ⎕ arcuate artery

    ⎕ arcuate vein

    ⎕ cortical radiate artery

    ⎕ cortical radiate vein

    ⎕ detrusor muscle

    ⎕ external urethral orifice

    ⎕ external urethral sphincter

    ⎕ inferior vena cava

    ⎕ interlobular artery

    ⎕ interlobular vein

    ⎕ internal urethral orifice

    ⎕ internal urethral sphincter

    ⎕ left kidney

    ⎕ left renal artery

    ⎕ left renal vein

    ⎕ left ureter

    ⎕ major calyx

    ⎕ minor calyx

    ⎕ renal hilum

    ⎕ right kidney

    ⎕ right renal artery

    ⎕ right renal vein

    ⎕ right ureter

    ⎕ renal column

    ⎕ renal cortex

    ⎕ renal medulla

    ⎕ renal pelvis

    ⎕ renal pyramid (of medulla)

    ⎕ rugae (of bladder)

    ⎕ urethra

    ⎕ urinary bladder

    2. Test your group members by asking them to name each structure you point to. Check off each when your group can successfully name each. Your group will also test you.

    3. When you and your group are comfortable identifying all the structures above, request the assistance of your Instructor. They will test you on your use of these terms and initial ONLY when you are successful using these terms. Instructor: _______
