2.I: Hydrophobic interactions

  • Hydrophobic substances spontaneously separate from aqueous solution. This primarily results from increased disorder among water molecules interacting with each other. Water molecules in contact with hydrophobic (non-interacting) compounds are more organized than those free in the solution. This leads to exclusion of hydrophobic molecules from the aqueous phase.
