( \newcommand{\kernel}{\mathrm{null}\,}\)

Learning Objectives
Content Objectives
  • Define the following terms: metabolism, reactant, product, substrate, enzyme, denature.
  • Describe the function of an enzyme's active site.
  • Describe the specific action of the enzyme catalase, including the substrate and products of the reaction.
  • List and describe the factors that can affect the rate of a chemical reaction and enzyme activity.
  • If provided with the optimal conditions for a particular enzyme, indicate which experimental conditions would show the greatest and least enzyme activity.
Skill Objectives
  • Employ the scientific method to observe and analyze the effects of pH, temperature, and concentration on enzyme activity.
  • Generate a laboratory report summarizing the key findings of the environmental factors affecting enzyme activity.
