BIO 300: Introduction to Genetics at Clinton College is an undergraduate biology course that introduces students to the fundamental principles of heredity, molecular genetics, and gene expression. The course examines the chemical structure and organization of DNA and chromosomes, the flow of genetic information through the central dogma, the causes and consequences of genetic mutations, and patterns of Mendelian and non-Mendelian inheritance, including sex-linked traits. Students also explore the regulation of gene expression, including prokaryotic operons and the use of genetic mutants, as well as modern techniques for analyzing genomes and manipulating genes through transgenic organisms.
