The word “fisheries” generally refers to oceanic species that are fished commercially. However, there are also recreational fisheries that need to be managed by wildlife biologists (or fisheries biologists) as well. Traditionally, invertebrates are included in their own group, shellfish, and vertebrates are in their own group, fish. As marine mammals, sea turtles, and seabirds are no longer fished for commercially (at least, in the U.S.), they are more included in wildlife management.
