Introduction
The integumentary system include the skin, and its accessory organs: hairs, nails, accessory glands, sensory receptors. The roles of this body system includes protecting the body from dehydration, absorbing nutrients, excreting wastes, and regulating body temperature (temperature homeostasis). It is also the attachment site for certain muscles and contains sensory receptors that detect pain, sensation, pressure, and temperature. Additionally, the integument is involved in synthesis of vitamin D. The integumentary system relies on all four types of tissue, epithelial, connective, muscular, and nervous, to conduct its crucial functions.
