    Energy is stored in the form of triglycerides. A triglyceride is a glyceride and three fatty acids attached by a ester bond. The fatty acids attached to the glycerol are hydrocarbon chains composed of 12-24 carbons. The fatty acid chains can be saturated (all single bonds) or unsaturated (all double bonds). There are three sources of triglycerides: diet, adipose tissues and new synthesis.
