The phylogeny of eukaryotes is updated often, so we use this as an example for students that phylogenies are hypotheses. We use the Openstax Biology 2e textbook for the lecture portion of the course, so use this eukaryotic phylogeny for consistency.
This lab will greatly depend on what the institution has access to. Prepared slides are good for understanding diversity, while live specimens and pond water are exciting for students and teach new microscopy skills.
