    Formative Questions

    1. Do dormant peas or germinating peas exhibit greater rates of cellular respiration? Explain.
    2. What additional variables or factors impacting the respiration rate of pea seeds could we have tested during this lab?
    3. Does methylene blue act as an oxidizing agent or reducing agent in Exercise B?
    4. What is the relationship between the concentration of yeast and fermentation rate?

    Summative Questions

    1. How can pH changes be used to detect the presence or absence of cellular respiration in pea plants?
    2. Is glucose oxidized or reduced when examining the overall chemical equation of aerobic cellular respiration?
    3. What are the substrates, intermediates, and products in the chemical equation for alcoholic fermentation in yeast?
    4. What is the purpose of a saccharometer? How is it used to measure fermentation rate?
